Description (last modified by fish) (diff)
Dear Sirs,
I've an enhancement request for KisMAC. Inspired by the Web Editor "RapidWeaver" I worked on a small GUI update for KisMAC these days.
I'd like to introduce these changes and like to know your thoughts. Here is a screenshot:

All files related to these changes are accessible at http://hdusel.macbay.de/KisMac/
I hope you like my changes and they will flow in a new release... ;)
Kind regards from Nuernberg, Germany - Peter -

Probably not my place to say (since i'm new here) but i really like it
i tend to invert my screen which means that blue turns bright orange (my display on my ibook does not go greyscale as mentioned in the documentation)
Having said that it would (in my opinion) be better is it were lighter - about the same as apples brushed metal since this goes very dark grey when inverted - but looking at this new version i might not have to invert if the results section was made slightly darker
Definately liking the greyscale though i really think the gui should be constantly tweaked to get it just right

I probably have little say here as well. However, I feel that any tweak/change to the GUI would be great. It should be updated just as the rest.
P.S. I am amazed with all the involvement concerning recent builds. Thank you developers and users for the great support!

That looks pretty spiffy but I think KisMac? should come with several colours so we can pic the one we like.

I might start working on a prefpane to switch these.

Ok, here we are so far.

Bare Metal theme (this will be improved)

Smooth theme (yeah, buttons, i know, the new ones don't work right. They are too big for the buttons, and turn non-transparent when clicked. I'm working on it...)

Old Classic theme, nothing changed.

Can the blue and white lines be changed?

I'm quite new here as well, but I've had some experience in design, so I hope my feedback is worth something.
I think the mode buttons will look better glossy in your version of the design. The GUI looks very reflective but right now the buttons are pretty dull.
Also, the blue button highlighting works in the current design, but in the predominantly grey version it looks a bit out of place. Maybe a desaturated red/orange? That could play together with the red logo.
By the way, now that I look at the design.. Is there a need to have the program name at the top? I mean, it's already stated in the title bar. The mode controls could well be in place of the "KisMAC" on the toolbar where they naturally belong in other software. I recall being a bit confused to find the buttons at the bottom when I first started using KisMAC.
Hope I'm not too harsh or anything. I just know that detailed critique usually helps [me] more than "Good job, that's cool".

Hello.
I have a question for the developers regarding the interface look and feel.
Do you want KisMAC to be a serious application for network security experts, or an "uber-leet" tool for script kiddies?
The answer to this would dictate which direction the interface design should follow. I'm of the opinion that the interface should follow Apple's HIG documents as much as possible, and use standard window boxes and modes, taking cues from the likes of iTunes, iPhoto, Transmit etc.
Oh, by the way, I'm new here, I'm a graphic designer and I ruffle feathers ;)

- Keywords Look&Feel added
This may be in the works for sometime far in the future, but it's not going to be done any time soon. We have enough features to implement and bugs to fix that redoing the GUI isn't the top of the priority list.

Milestone KisMAC 0.3a deleted

That looks truly awesome! How would it look in blue though? I'm not saying I don't like it, just wondering. The grey looks a little bit... grey. Also, spacing out the buttons a bit more would be nice.
