  • Linksys WUSB54GC (0x13b1, 0x20) RaLink RT73

Fish

  • MacBook Pro (2,2) 2.16 GHz Core2Duo, 2 GB RAM, 80 GB HDD. Atheros AirPort Extreme, but I never use it with KisMAC.
  • Afla AWUS036H (does not support MAC OS 10.6.7 or later) (rtl8187l). Mmmm... 300 mW out the RP-SMA; put a 2 dBi omni on it and you've got 500 mW! Has amazing receive sensitivity in spite of the amount of output power it has. This is my new wardriving adapter.
  • Linksys WUSB54G v4 (rt2570) modified with an RP-SMA connector  like this and a 5 dBi omni antenna. This has been a really nice device for wardriving, but I now use the Alfa.
  • Alfa AWUS036S (rt73). Same device as the two Hawkings and the Edimax; has a built-in RP-SMA.
    • Airlink101  ASB-10MA 10 dBi omni antenna (only had opportunity to use it once in the car), and
    • Airlink101  ASB-10DA 10 dBi patch antenna, which has proven itself to be quite nice indeed. It's not really 10 dBi, though, and it's more of a figure-8 pattern than a true patch.
  • D-Link DWL-G122 B1 (f/w 2.02, rt2570). The USB extension cable is handy for wardriving (put it on the dash and you're good to go), but the device's sensitivity is lower than I'd like. I mostly use this for testing or short-range site surveys now.
  • Ashton Digital Air Dash WRUB-2011i. (Prism2 hinged stick.) Sucks for wardriving: it heats up and responds slower, which makes KisMAC look like it has crashed when it hasn't. Works fine when it can be kept cooler, and has Prism2's decent sensitivity (much better than the DWL-G122). I run r158 with this, though I have no evidence to show I have to.
  • USGlobalSat BU-353, using Prolific's drivers and a serial link to KisMAC. Nice and small, magnetic mount for the roof of the car, locks up fast, and is pleasantly accurate for a consumer GPS. Formerly used with gpsd, but I was beginning to have too many random issues.
  • Titanium PowerBook G4 500 MHz (the original model TiBook!), 512 MB RAM, upgraded 40 GB HDD.
  • AirPort (not Extreme) passive mode on the TiBook. Worked great for passive scanning as long as I was willing to reboot to get it back.
  • D-Link DWL-G650, H/W ver B4, f/w 2.42 PCMCIA (Atheros). My first "external" card, handily let me use the AirPort card normally while scanning passively.

Geoff

  • PowerBook G4 15" (but in need of a MacBook Pro)
  • AirPort Extreme

jeroenimo

  • MacBook Pro 2.33ghz Core2Duo 2GB ram (First time I booted it i had a OMFG that is fast moment but WHY did they take out the PCMCIA slot :-( )
  •  Linksys WUSB54G (which i use mainly on linux for reinjecting)
  •  Sitecom WL-012 Prism2 chipset. (very cheap and reliable wifi dongle and works like a charm in KisMAC)
  •  Dlink DWL-122 Also Prism2 chipset, slightly worse reception as the Sitecom, but I might still mod it.. or keep it as an artifact !
  • GPS is a furuno (dunno the model) on my ship which is connected through a serial-usb converter to my MacBook pro ( guess I'm a warsailor! )
  •  Alfa AWUS036H (does not support MAC OS 10.6.7 or later) rtl8187L adapter which is a real good baby , very sensitive and also very well supported under linux (which I use most for hacking) and runs great under OSX too (native as normal network adapter) Thumbs up ... Support on kismac seems roughly there !!
  • 3com 3CRUSB10075 for "drive by" hacking, lower power but a great chip for where is not 500mW needed (works under linux only though !)

Robin

  • iBook G4 12" - getting a bit slow for the number of things I try to run at the same time (Google Earth with real-time GPS updating, KisMAC with large maps [10Mpx+], plus all internet applications and a bunch of extras)... but otherwise an awesome little machine.
  • AirPort Extreme - works beautifully with themacuser's new channel-hopping code!
  • D-Link DWL-122 - this is an excellent device for passive scanning & packet reinjection on 12" models with no PCMCIA slots - highly recommended!
  •  Holux GM-210 USB GPS - a very good basic NMEA GPS unit. Download the drivers from the  Prolific web site (the Holux unit uses a Prolific chipset to provide USB-to-Serial capability)

rollfaster

  • Mac Pro 2 x 2.6GHz
  • Linksys WUSB11 ver2.5 - prism2, best signal, MMCX connector inside, connected to antenna, great for wardriving.
  • USGlobalSat BU-353 - using prolific drivers.

  • Sony Vaio tr3ap "Mac Ultraportable": pcmcia slot not working, installed ralink minipci
  • MSI MS-6833A - ralink minipci-> maybe an architecture port in the future?

Ryan

  • PowerBook G4 800 MHz, 512 MB RAM. Old laptop from 2002 (one of the first G4 PBs. I found a cobweb inside once). Has a load of physical issues, will probably have to tape the RAM in sometime soon. (Tightening all the internal screws once in a while seems to help in the short term, though. Remember that).
  • Ashton Digital AirDash wRUB-2011i WN220.
  • AirPort card (yup, computer is so old it came BEFORE AirPort Extreme)
  • Airlink 101 ASB-10MA +10dBi Omni-Directional Antenna. This thing works great and is cheap. It will especially help just to get any internal card's antenna out of the titanium (aluminum for most people) casing.
  • Reverse SMA to N-Female adaptor.
  • MC-Card to N-Male pigtail, attached in a Mac-Tail like fasion.
  • Garmin eTrex Legend, with Keyspan serial to USB. Now if I could only bother to get it to work…

Shazzamy

  • Ashton Digital WN220 Prism2

themacuser

  • PowerBook G4 12" 1.33ghz, 768MB RAM, 60GB HDD- Small and light. Awesome, except for no PCMCIA.
  • Netgear MA111b v1 - Slightly shoddy design (peeled off all the stickers). Slightly lacking antenna. Might mod it for an external antenna, or I might get a WUSB11 and be able to just plug one in. Now screwed after a failed firmware hack. Didn't even need a washing machine to kill it...
  • USGlobalSat BU-353 - install the Prolific drivers - USGlobalSat's ones are buggy and cause kernel panics.
  • Internal AirPort Extreme - Works in passive mode without any problems with permanent mode enabled.
  • Netgear HA501 802.11a Atheros card - maybe someday :)

themacuser / simonl

  • PowerBook G3 Pismo - 500MHZ, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, Combo drive (near-death experience involving bent PCMCIA pins)
  • Senao NC-2511-EXT2 (Prism2 chipset)
  • Orinoco Gold card
  • WarpStar Aterm WL54AG (Atheros chipset) - bender of PCMCIA slot pins, now in several pieces across the room. Didn't actually work properly in the first place.
  • Netgear HA501 (Atheros 802.11a card... maybe someday)
  • Motorola WN825G card (Broadcom chipset, recognised as AirPort Extreme, works in passive mode.)
  • MMCX to N-Type pigtail
  • MCCard to N-Type pigtail
  • ZCG Scalar 12dbi magmount antenna
  • Small 6dbi N-type magmount antenna

  • Netgear WG111v2 [USB/RTL8187L] (PY305100001) : Works great in passive mode with full packet-injection support. Good range and power characteristics, and rather peppy.
  • Linksys WRT54GS2 (DD-WRT v24-sp2 10/10/09 micro) : Fantastic wireless gateway, but requires occasional restarts.
  • 2x Apple AirPort Express : Works a treat to extend my home network into the 5GHz range and pump the tunes where they belong! :)
  • Homebrew BiQuad antennae.

Xaive
