Identifying chipsets

• What chipset does card x have? Take a look at  Linux Wireless LAN Support The driver information is for linux use but will sometimes assist you in identifying the exact chipset.
• Look inside your device with the internal photos submitted with the  FCC ID.

Wi-Fi

• An easy to read guide on the  basics of wireless networks, as well as technical information on sniffing and hacking.
• More basic Wi-Fi information with a focus on antenna technologies can be found in Cisco's Aironet Antenna Reference Guide  HTML or  PDF. (Not surprisingly, it lists Cisco products at the end.)
• The best information on key recovery (both WEP and WPA) is at  aircrack-ng's wiki. Aircrack-ng is a suite of command line tools, some of which can run in a Terminal window on OS X.
